The following is an email received from Geetha Ghai, Berkeley Heights Resident, to the County Superintendent Daryl Palmieri in Support of Ms. Khanna for BOE President.
Mr. Palmieri’s email address is [email protected]
Dear Mr. Palmieri,
I am a long time resident of Berkeley Heights, NJ and my children went through this school system. Recently, I have noticed that there is a lot of unrest, among parents and community members, on changes that are being made in this school district. Whether this unrest is warranted or not it has created a lot of anxiety among the community. Having said that, I want to make a case for Dipti Khanna for the Board of Education President. Dipti was elected as a BOE board member a year ago and understands the inner workings of this complex board along with the roles and responsibilities of the individuals on the board.
I have interacted with Ms. Khanna a few times and she has given me the impression of being sound in her thinking and fair in her actions. I believe she is fully qualified to serve as the president of BOE. She has a degree in engineering and is currently working in a high level responsible position managing global project teams in a multi national company. Needless to say this requires a lot of negotiation skills and human relationship management.
As a neophyte Dipti will bring a different perspective to the workings of the board as Dipti does not have any history and preconceived ideas. Her opponent, equally qualified I am sure, is a long term board member who has served both as a vice president and president; therefore it may be the right time for change. I am hopeful that this change will bring in new thinking to get the BH schools back in its high performing mode. And also will help alleviate the unrest.
In my view public education has been a beacon of light in our country and my belief in this system is unwavering. I humbly request that you look into the position of President of BOE and help make the decision to break the tie by appointing Dipti to this position. It is time for a change so we get the BH school district among the top performing in NJ.
Thank you for taking the time to read this email
Wishing you the best
Geetha Ghai
