Support for Arik Samson, Berkeley Heights Board of Education

Cathy Marshott is a Berkeley Heights resident Whose Children are BHPS graduates

I am pleased to endorse Arik Samson for a position on the Board of Education. His unwavering commitment to transparency and accountability in government, particularly in relation to the Open Public Records Act (OPRA), sets him apart as a candidate who genuinely prioritizes the interests of the community.

Arik has demonstrated his dedication to protecting the public’s right to access government records by actively opposing recent legislation that threatens the integrity of OPRA. His testimony in Trenton against bills S2930 and A4045 highlights his understanding of the importance of transparency in government operations. He articulated compelling arguments against these bills, emphasizing how they would create significant obstacles for ordinary citizens seeking to hold their government accountable. His assertion that “the government must operate transparently” resonates deeply with the values we uphold in our community.

Arik’s advocacy against these harmful provisions shows that he is not only informed but also willing to take action for the benefit of all residents. He recognizes that access to public records is essential for ensuring that local government remains accountable and responsive to its constituents. His commitment to reversing detrimental changes at a local level is a testament to his dedication to upholding the rights of the public.

Furthermore, Arik’s focus on ensuring that our schools prioritize the needs of students and teachers aligns perfectly with the values we should uphold in our educational system. By advocating for transparency in school budgeting and governance, he aims to ensure that resources are directed toward enhancing the educational experience rather than expanding administrative overhead.

In a time when transparency and accountability are more critical than ever, we need leaders like Arik Samson who will fight for our rights and work to ensure that our educational institutions operate with integrity. I wholeheartedly endorse his candidacy for the Board of Education and believe he will be a strong advocate for our community.
