NJ21st 01/19/2025 Newsletter
What’s Important to Know About Our Local & State Government This Week….
This week’s newsletter delves into a critical follow-up report from the Office of State Comptroller. The report exposes a private police training program that cost New Jersey taxpayers $1 million and promoted unconstitutional and discriminatory practices.
Disturbingly, Berkeley Heights Township, alongside 15 other municipalities, participated in this training. According to OSC none of the atendees from these towns reported these issues to the appropriate authorities. Not. A. Single. One.
We then shift our focus to the local school board. An educator provides valuable insights into potential priorities for the new Superintendent during their first year. Shauna’s article examines the compelling case for Ms. Khanna as the next Board of Education President, who received more votes than Ms. Bradford in their last election run.
A crucial question arises: Will Interim County Superintendent Mr. Palmieri make decisions based on merit and performance, or will he succumb to the influence of his close political associates in Berkeley Heights?
The newsletter concludes with a second NJ21st contribution published in the Jersey City Times, focusing on urban schools. We also examine a controversial Board decision in North Hanover, highlighting the involvement of the law firm Cleary Giacobbe Alfieri & Jacobs, a firm well known for profiting from such legal entanglements – especially those created in our community.
As always, we end with our weekly notes and a recap of our top three articles from December.
