Work Product from the $30k PR Consultant the Berkeley Heights Town Council Hired

We have to start by acknowledging that the new OPRA Custodian for the Township is exponentially better at handling OPRA requests than the District’s Business Administrator. John has submitted the majority of these requests—and let’s be honest, we all know how frustrating he can be to deal with.
One of our latest OPRA requests sheds light on the high-priced Public Relations firm the Township hired earlier this year at a cost of $30,000 . Their responsive records include:
- Invoices
- Newsletters
- Social Media Posts
- Email Correspondence Connected to Work Product
Initially, some of us suspected this firm would be used to spin or push through some of the Mayor and Council’s more controversial initiatives. Fortunately, the evidence doesn’t seem to support that. However, what we do see is about $5,000 worth of work that hardly seems remarkable—work that a local resident or even a college student looking for a job could easily handle. Then again, those individuals probably aren’t contributing to NJ political campaigns the way Vision Media is.
But we’ll let you be the judge:
