Round Two: School Budget Edition
Laura’s Notes on the Agenda for This Thursday
Laura’s Second Choice For a Title:
“Let’s abolish positions that directly interact with students while keeping the business offices top heavy”
Are you ready?
Important things to know from the agenda:
(Reinstate means- added back from the previous budget proposal)
1)Resolution on the REORGANIZATION OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM (if you’re feeling deja vu you’re not alone!);
A) Creation of Director of STEAM/STEM
B) Abolish Supervisor of Math, Technology Education, Life Skills and Business
C) Abolish Supervisor of Science, Art, and Technology
(Not only did people come out in droves to advocate to KEEP these positions but it was voted down. In what seems like an attempt to push through with a personal agenda, Dr. Varley has added the abolishment of 2 of the 5 positions she had tried to push through last meeting)
2) 4 staff members are retiring;
3) 6 staff member are resigning.
Important things regarding the revised budget;
1) HELP teachers and one Kindergarten teacher has been reinstated (was anyone even aware that they had been terminated?) +$138,438;
2) HELP teachers for grades 1-5 have been reinstated and two teachers in grades 1-5 have been reinstated +$82,686;
3) Reinstate one elementary Special Education teacher +$75,773;
4) Reinstated coaching stipends +$137,932 (not sure who or what positions were on the chopping block);
5) Budget cut $29,000 for uniforms and equipment (but quoting Varley, these cuts were misinformation);
6) Reinstate one Special Education professional +$91,125;
7) Reinstate one Supervisor +$185,752
8) Reinstate full Supervisor salary +$31,347;
New Items:
9) Remove bleachers for CMS blue gym saving the budget a whopping $100,000 (why was anyone ever talking about slashing teaching positions when we were sitting on this?);
10) Remove 401 Chromebooks from 2023-2024 budget and purchase with current year budget -$144,345 (again, this sudden discovery of money is astonishing!).
