Mayor Devanney’s Response to Resident Concerns on Proposed OPRA Reform

In this clip, Mayor Devanney responds to my concerns regarding OPRA reform.

The Mayor’s response does not address the specific concerns of the letter connected to legislation proposed by Assemblyman Danielsen that would, in fact, impact residents and journalists.  I also believe it overstated the cost and work involved in automatically making documents public – especially when you consider the legal costs involved with non-compliance and the overall benefit to the public in having certain information readily available.

That being said, Angie’s response meaningfully responded to the more important underlying concern.

According to the Mayor, the movement to reform OPRA is slow and do not appear to focus on residents or Journalists.  So perhaps the legislation being proposed by Danielsen is so bad that no one is taking it seriously?

Compare the coherent and respectful response I received during the 09/05 Town Council Meeting on this matter to what we normally get from the Board of Education and Superintendent (condescension, bad information, silence or gaslighting).
