Cheryl Venter, Berkeley Heights

I am writing in support of the Illis & Machado ticket for Berkeley Heights Township Council.

Berkeley Heights, like numerous towns in New Jersey, is facing the challenge of supporting the mandated residential development that was required by the state, and I am proud that our town has been able to locate this development downtown, allowing affordable housing to teachers, public workers and seniors so that they can afford to live here and we can grow as a diverse and vibrant community into the future. With the expected increase in people living, working, and shopping in our downtown area, we need a strong council willing to prioritize the repairs and improvements that will be essential to meeting the needs of downtown while maintaining the infrastructure throughout the town.

I am not sure what the other candidates’ plans or priorities are.  It is easy to grab the headline of “overdevelopment”, but how would they “stop” it and what would they do to support the growth that our town was required to provide through legacy judicial rulings?

I’m voting for Margaret Illis and Bill Machado for Berkeley Heights Township Council because I know they will support Mayor Angie Devanney’s commitment and proven progress of the last few years on improving our town’s infrastructure and investing in our sewer plant and roads, which had been neglected in the past. That proven commitment has translated into actively seeking out grants to help improve our pedestrian networks and the drainage projects being done throughout town without increasing the tax burden, and there are more projects planned for the years ahead.

With their 30+ combined years of volunteerism for our town, I know Margaret Illis & Bill Machado are the team to tackle the hard challenges facing our community head-on because they have provided their platform and answered our questions. We need a team who will hit the ground running – and who have constructive and viable goals for our town. Margaret Illis & Bill Machado is that team!

On November 7 (or earlier if you are voting by mail!), please join me in voting for Illis & Machado – Column A – for Berkeley Heights Township Council.
