NJ21st 11/26/2024 Newsletter
What’s Important to Know About Our Local & State Government This Week….
This week’s newsletter kicks off with an investigative look into the flow of campaign dollars in Berkeley Heights. We uncover a web of PACs funded by businesses and special interest groups, making it challenging to gauge the extent of pay-to-play practices at the municipal level.
Next, we recap the 11/14/2024 Board of Education meeting, which featured a presentation on counseling programs, discussions surrounding ethics concerns involving Hyman and Stanley, and efforts by the new majority to ensure fairer committee selections.
We also highlight a curious resolution that appeared on the Town Council agenda for a Monday meeting scheduled at 5:45 PM. Though the resolution was pulled at the last minute, we expect it to resurface.
On the state level, we provide an update on committee work related to ballot design. Unfortunately, given this is the same brain trust responsible for undermining OPRA and rolling back campaign finance reform, our expectations are low. However, we outline ways for residents to voice their opinions and engage in this critical process.
As always, we conclude with our weekly notes and a roundup of the top three articles from October.
