On a glance at the town council agenda, the resolution authorizing an emergency appropriation for $1,533,525.00 raises some eyebrows.

Why is the Council authorizing an emergency appropriation of $ 1.5 million?

Before this being discussed at the next meeting, it would be helpful to the public if the Council could provide some background into what this emergency authorization of $ 1.5 million is being authorized for. Every elected representative has the fiduciary responsibility.

Many residents are still trying to wrap their heads around the reality of a leaking roof at the town hall after spending over $34 Million. In order to restore public confidence, it may be in the Council’s interest to inform the public on these matters in advance.

Two questions I have in connection to this item are:

Where is the money for this emergency appropriation coming from? Is it coming from 2022-23 budget?

Will this increase the tax percentage levied for this year?

Additionally on the agenda, under New Business, there are two resolutions:

  • A resolution authorizing an agreement with City of Elizabeth to provide Sexually Transmitted Disease services.

It would be helpful for the public to be informed on this program’s cost, revenue source, and oversight.

  • A resolution approving Bill List dated February 7, 2023, in the amount of $977,858.85.

In the spirit of transparency and accountability, the town council can consider releasing the bill list ($977,858.85) listed along with the agenda and making this list available ahead of time- prior to the meeting.

Lastly, would be in the best interest of the town if the council can provide an overview on the following at the earliest:

1. Current state of repairs to the leaking roof at the town hall.

2. Current state of sewage treatment plan and planned repairs.
