BUDGET, NEPOTISM & TEXTBOOKS

In this clip, a parents asks questions surrounding three areas:

(1) Budget Process: Last year, the Budget Process was the subject of much criticism as the total budget was not disclosed to the public (until BHCW obtained it through an OPRA request to the State) and because there was no public meeting before initial approval. Last year the BOE hinted that things would be different this year – let’s hope they occur and that the changes are more than cosmetic.

(2) Dr. Varley’s Proposed Nepotism Settlement: Over one full year later – involving one legal expense after another- Dr. Varley’s contradictions and mounting legal fees continue to climb. The parent in the clip asks the BOE two essential questions: When will the public know the total cost of Dr. Varley’s defense (staff hours and Dr. Varleys time should be included in addition to the legal fees)? Who is responsible for the cost of this defense?

(3) Building Thinking Classrooms and Text Books: The main takeaway for me is that parents are still asking about text books half way into the school year after receiving assurances early this school year that they would be available.
