After writing about Ms. Kot’s interesting version of why we are nearing a “fiscal cliff,” (just as we are approaching Budget review and approval for the District), I thought it might be helpful to compare the Central Office Staff of New Providence and the Berkeley Heights (NP has approximately the same size district as we do – about 2,400 students to our 2,500.)

New Providence has a Superintendent (of course), but only one Assistant Superintendent, whereas we have two. Our Superintendent has an Executive Assistant and an Assistant, and New Providence lists three Executive Secretary positions without specifying who they serve. Let’s assume one of the three positions is for the Superintendent and one is for the Assistant Superintendent. For this category, Berkeley Heights has 5 positions and New Providence has 4.

Lets move on over to a comparison of the Business Office.

Berkeley Heights and New Providence have a Business Administrator, a Business Administrator Assistant, a Payroll Specialist, and an Accounts Payable position. However, Berkeley Heights has a Budget, Accounting, and Reporting Specialist, a Confidential Administrative Assistant to the Business Administrator, and now a School Records Custodian. If we give the last New Providence Executive Secretary position to their Business Administrator, the tally here has Berkeley Heights at 7 Administrative positions and New Providence at 5 in their respective Business Offices.

New Providence has one Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Supervision, with an Assistant. We have four Department Supervisors. Berkeley Heights has 4 Administrative Positions in this Area and New Providence has 2.

New Providence has a Director of Special Services; Berkeley Heights has a Director and Supervisor of Special Education. The Supervisor should be in charge of things for our District, IMHO, but that’s a story for another time. Berkeley Heights has 2 Administrative Positions in this Area and New Providence has 1.

New Providence does not list a Transportation Supervisor or Transportation Coordinator – Berkeley Heights has both positions and a Food Service Director- also absent from New Providence’s roster. Based on these facts, Berkeley Heights has 3 positions in this area and New Providence has none.

Both Districts have an Athletic Director and a Director of Guidance/School Counseling.

All told, the numbers stack up to Berkeley Heights having 23 Administrative positions and New Providence with 14.

Go Highlanders!!!

Oh, wait….
