Email Received From OPRA Request Demonstrates the District is Determined to Hide Information from the Public
We (at BHCW) received a gem of an OPRA, highlighting just how deep in the trenches Dr. Varley is and just how far she will go to protect herself and Ms. Kot. This email can be seen in its entirety below (sans the employee thrown under the bus). Still, please relish in this truly remarkable display by our Superintendent, who leads with kindness, holds high ethical standards and strongly believes in fairness. All the while lying about Ms. Kot’s job, trashing a district employee (we did not include the portion of the email that identified the employee), showing her continued disrespect for residents, and advising Board members to evade OPRA requests making their communications public by getting rid of information.
This is almost too good to be true… Ladies and gentlemen, THIS is our Superintendent (who we are paying nearly a quarter of a million dollars a year to do what, exactly?)…
“Just as an FYI, they have OPRA’d all of my emails, and when they didn’t find anything, they have moved on to Board members. Please make sure that there is nothing in your email that you do not want public. As our attorney has stated, pick up the phone… As the minutes state, we will abolish this stipend position as soon as these individuals stop with their nonsense… No one takes the BA position to be the OPRA person… With her spending days upon days answering these tedious OPRA requests, she is unable to get her job done…”
It is also telling that Dr. Varley, so protective of information connected to the costs of her legal defense and the District Budget, suddenly becomes so open and flippant about sharing her opinions on the work habits of others in an email.
Dr. Varley – a word of advice:
Instead of hiding things and creating more problems for the District, it is best to spend time trying to fix the real issues plaguing the District.
