Were the Administrative cuts mentioned at the last BOE Meeting nothing more than Smoke and Mirrors?
The agenda is out for this coming Thursday’s Board of Education meeting, and it’s notable both for what is being eliminated and what isn’t mentioned.
“Effective immediately following June 30, 2023, the following supervisory positions hereby are abolished:
a. District Supervisor of Math / Practical Arts
b. District Supervisor of Science / Art / Computers
c. District Supervisor of ELA / Music / Media Specialists
d. District Supervisor of Special Education
e. District Supervisor of Social Studies / World Language / Director of
Special Projects
Effective immediately following June 30, 2023, the following administrative positions hereby are created with the job descriptions developed and approved by the Superintendent:
a. Director of Academics: Humanities
b. Director of Academics: Science and Math
c. Director of Pupil Personnel Services”
A few notes here… “Director” is typically a higher-paying position than “Supervisor,” so unless the district is going to low-ball salaries, this will be a wash regarding financial savings.
We should be very wary of what this entails.
Given the Superintendent’s past actions, key players among those District Supervisors will likely be the ones fulfilling the new Director roles. Still, without that information, we will have to wait and see.
Notice what is not listed here because it’s hugely important.
There is no elimination of support staff for our Superintendent or our Business Administrator listed.
Not ONE. SINGLE. OFFICE. POSITION.
Yet, we plan to remove teaching positions and ask teachers to take on more work and larger classes.
As usual, and as we have come to expect, our top “leaders” in this district have their priorities ass-backward.
Is it time to start speaking up yet, Berkeley Heights?
