Latest Elementary and Middle School Rankings Not Encouraging For Berkeley Heights

The decline in rankings continues under Dr. Melissa Varley as Superintendent

The following rankings are using the Berkeley Heights Community Watch (BHCW) seven-district data dashboard. These seven districts include Berkeley Heights, New Providence, Summit, Chatham, Madison, Millburn, and Westfield. 

The methodology from US News & World Report states: “State assessment data determines how most elementary and middle schools fare in these rankings.”

Best Middle schools (link here):

#5: Millburn Middle School (Millburn)

#8: Roosevelt Middle School (Westfield)

#14: New Providence Middle School (New Providence)

#20: Lawton C. Johnson Middle School (Summit)

#28: Chatham Middle School (Chatham)

#40: Thomas Edison Intermediate School (Westfield)

#43: Madison Junior School (Madison)

#49: Columbia Middle School (Berkeley Heights)

Please note that Westfield has two middle schools.

Summary: All seven districts in the BHCW dashboard have one (or both, in the case of Westfield) middle schools ranked higher than our own Columbia Middle School in Berkeley Heights.

Other notable mentions within the Top 100 middle schools include William Annin Middle School/Bernards (#22), Mount Pleasant Middle School/Livingston (#35), Ridgedale Middle School/Florham Park (#60), Warren Middle School/Warren in Somerset County (#63), Heritage Middle Schools/Livingston (#73), Deerfield School/Mountainside (#86), and Green Brook Middle School/Green Brook (#99).

Summary: New Providence, Summit, Chatham, Millburn, and Westfield have both/all – or at least most of their elementary schools ranked higher than the four BHPS elementary schools. Madison and Berkeley Heights’ elementary schools are notably not ranked in the Top 90/
