Ms. Penna and Ms. Stanley: Here’s a Compromise

Email John sent to the Board Earlier Today on the President Deadlock:

I would be ok with Angela Penna being president if the following occurred:

-Committee Memberships need to be approved by a majority vote of the BOE
-Committees are taped and provided to the public
-The 48 hour rule is removed
-The the power of the President is diminished which can include but is not limited to:
-Allow BOE Members to speak at meetings and answer resident questions
-Move most decisions that belong to the President to a simple majority vote that must occur in a public meeting or (only when appropriate) exec session
– There are penalties (involving suspensions) for Administration and Members of the Finance committee [for not sharing the budget with the full board] when FULL DETAILED budgets are being developed and that ALL Members have access to the budget via network or cloud share so that changes can be monitored
-Require, by policy- three meetings for budget
-Require referendum, via policy, for reconfigurations
– That BOE Members are explicitly allowed by policy to speak on boe matters publicly as long as they include a disclaimer in print, on video etc
-That BOE Members are explicitly allowed by policy to speak about Committee Meeting details (except for executive session) during BOE meetings, in print and on video
-End the practice of having an attorney present at BOE Meetings
-Allow people on Zoom to speak at meetings
In other words increase the power of all BOE members, allow BOE members to speak and write publicly, give the public access to decisions while, at the same time, reducing the role of the president to a facilitator with limited power.

This is a minimal list – more should probably be added.  But, it can be a starting point.  The mistake the majority of you made is giving this position so much power and control last year.

Another Option -Have the role of president rotate among two members.

Rotate the role of president every two months; have Dipti and Angela share the position.

So here’s a compromise.
It’s on the table.
Can we do this “for the kids”?
