The following is the second in a series of articles about questions presented to the Berkeley Heights Public School District Business Administrator on the 2023 Audit submitted to the State of NJ before Berkeley Heights families and taxpayers could review the document and ask questions contrary to state statute and our historical process.
Since 2019, enrollment in the Berkeley Heights Public School system has declined. This decline has been consistent throughout the last three years since Full Day Kindergarten was implemented.
Despite having 128 fewer students enrolled compared to 2019, the district added 37 new positions in that same period.
One of the positions on the district’s organizational chart is the second Assistant to the Superintendent position created during Dr. Varley’s tenure, which many in the community do not see a need for and other Districts do not have.
